Production: My progression throughout the whole task has gone very well, I can now use the photographic equiptment easier than I could before. I can use photoshop with a lot more confidence than I could before. My creative ability has also improved a fair amount throughout the task, as I tested a few different shots, I came up with better ideas, and more creative in my planning. While doing photography, I learnt  about different photography techniques. One of these includes the rule of thirds, I learnt that this was a very important technique to think about whilst taking a photograph. I timed my work very tightly, I used all the time I had, I took time taking my photo’s, untill I was happy with my final peices, but I also made sure I wasn’t taking to much time. I made sure I knew what I was editing on the photo’s after they were taken before I actually took them so I could just upload them and edit them to put them on my blog. I finished within time, so my timing technique proved to be effective.

I think the context of my magazine is teen fashion, so it relates to younger people. I think many people can relate to the topic of my magazine because it’s something that younger people worry about daily.

Self evaluation: I thought my photography went fairly well. There were many improvements I could have made. I could have edited them better in photoshop to create a better impact, but I feel as I’ve got more used to using photoshop, I feel that my skills have progressed. I feel that one of my strengths was arranging where the photos will be taken, and positioning the models as the outcome of the photos were effective in my eyes.

Feedback: I showed my final 3 images to my photography class, and received some critical feedback. Some people in my class, said the colours in my pictures were very dramatic and effective.

A fashion photographer Richard Warren was a big inspiration to me in my fashion photography. His work is very different and strange, but it stands out to me because I have never seen anything like it.

In the picture below by Richard Warren, I particularly liked the bright red colour against the dark background, this is the sort of thing I wanted in my own photography as to me it’s the most effective thing as your eyes automatically draw to the bright colour. Also the way the whole picture is based on one colour is more effective than there being a whole load of colours which can often be over the top and be to much for the audience.

PLANNING.

I will be taking some pictures on fashion, I have already decided the pictures I will be taking. I will have a model in bright eccentric clothing in a woodland scene, and have it all in black and white except for the bright clothing, therefore enhancing the clothes, which is the fashion. I hope for this to be effective. I will have the model in different positions, but all meaningful effective positioning. An idea i have is to use focus point, to blur certain areas of the image, this will be one of my test shots. I will also use photo shop a lot to help make my pictures a lot more effective and add in any features I think may help my photos look good.

In this photo, I wanted the colours of the to-to to stand out, and the bright pink from the to-to is one of the most defined parts of the picture. Also, using photoshop, with the contrast and brightness is how the boots got their shiny glossy look which I think is effective towards the photo as it is enhancing a particular fashion item.

I took thi photo from the same level as the models head, an made sure there was un-used space on the left hand side of the picture, I think this adds to effect, it makes the photo a more lonely photo, just focusing on the person. I made the photo black and white as I think it goes along with the loneliness, and draws attention to the photo.

This photo has been taken with lots of extra space around the model. There is roughly the same amount of space around the model, which makes the model (which is the main aspect of the photo) stand out. The lighting in this photo was already there from the underpath lights and the flash on the camera, but I altererd the lighting a little using photoshop to make the lighting more effective and to make it a better quality photo.

Shutter speed- Shutter speed is a setting on a camera which controls the length of time the shutter is open, allowing light through the lens to the sensor inside a camera. Shutter speeds can go from very small fractions of a second, to several seconds long on most cameras.
Slow shutter speed slows the motion.
Fast shutter speed, takes the image almost instantly as in frozen in time.

Focus Point- A focus, also called an image point, is the point where light rays originating from a point on the object converge. The small brackets, lines or circle in the middle of an auto focus point-and-shoot’s viewfinder that indicates where the camera is pointing. The camera will focus on one specific part that you want it to, and the rest of the scene isn’t focused, it’s blurred.

There are three basic camera lens types, standard, wide angle and telephoto. The power of a camera lens is measured in millimetres and is known as the focal length of a lens. Any camera lens with a shorter focal length than this is considered to be a wide angle lens and any lens with a longer focal length is considered a telephoto lens.

A shorter focal length is a lens that provides a wide angle of view of a scene, including more of the subject area than does a lens of normal focal length.

Lighting- Three Point Lighting is a standard method used in visual media such as video, film, still photography and computer-generated photography. By using three separate positions, the photographer can illuminate the shot’s subject however desired, while also controlling  the shading and shadows produced by direct lighting.

Back lighting-Back-lighting is light that comes from behind your subject.

Fill Lighting- Fill lighting shines directly upon the subject and serves as its principal illuminator; more than anything else, the strength, color and angle of the key determines the shot’s overall lighting design.

Key lighting- The key light is the first and usually most important light that a photographer will use in a lighting setup. The purpose of the key light is to highlight the form and dimension of the subject. Many key lights may be placed in a scene to illuminate a moving subject at opportune moments.

Flash-A flash is a device used in photography that produces an instantaneous flash of artificial light at a color to help illuminate a scene. You can use the flash for many different things, such as, to Increase the Aperture in Auto/Program mode, for night/ indoor flash, daylight/fill-in flash and bounced flash.

Tripod-

A tripod is a three-legged support that holds the camera steady.  Tripods are important for certain areas of photography such as streak lights. Also tripods would need to be used, if a picture needs to be taken from a long distance. If the ground is rocky, or the picture is taken near water, then tripods would not be used, monopods would be used.

This is an example of a picture that could not be taken without a tripod as the camera would have had to be held still for a long amount of time.

Fashion Photography- I like this Photo taken by Richard Warren. I like the contrast between the size of the handbag and the size of the person holding the handbag. The lighting is focused onto the miniature items in her hand more so than on herself. The Corners of the photo is darker than the rest, and in the photo, shadows have been created underneath her arms, which i think is effective.
This is a fairly close-up picture, the main focus actually being the items, and the woman.
There have been use of pale colours in this picture, the colours are very calm and neutral.

Advertising Photography-I like these pictures taken by Jonathan Knowles, I think the first one is different to other photos. There is no other colour but brown, which makes me focus on the colour brown, which is in this case chocolate. The edges of the chocolate look defined and sharp. There is no background to the picture which makes the picture effective. The broken effect of the chocolate is very effective because it makes it look different and makes it look more appealing.
The second picture is very effective because the blue and purple colours really stand out. The lighting is what really makes this picture stand out, because there are light areas and then very dark areas. The light has been focused on the path, and near the signs, the train track is completely black and has no light whatsoever, but up above the darkness, is a purple lighting. This all makes the photo very effective, and it defines all the areas well. Shutter speed has been used in this picture as well to get the effect it has,

Both photographers are very talented, and all the photos are very effective.
The fashion photograph has a totally different effect to it than the advertising photographs, the fashion photos have calmer colours than the advertising ones, and the lighting is more defined in the advertising ones. The fashion photo also has a close up picture of something whereas the advertising photos are not so much. The chocolate picture is more focused on that specific thing, but the tube one, is more of a setting, and isn’t focused on one thing.

The first photo would be published in a fashion type magazine, a more mature one I would suggest though as it isn’t outrageous or different, it’s neutral. I also think photo one could go in a home magazine.

The second photo of the chocolate could go in any magazine as an advertisement.

The third photo of the train station could go in a travel magazine, or a leaflet.
